A Milestone Year For Memorial Golf Tournaments
Debbie Olivier, John Darraugh, and Colin MacDonald were three remarkable individuals that made a profound impact on their family and friends. Every year those friends and family in turn, make a profound impact on cancer research through each one of the memorial golf tournaments held in their honor.
This year is a milestone year for each of the tournaments:
The 10th Annual Debbie Olivier Memorial Golf Classic is held each year in Bonsall, CA. This tournament celebrating the life and charitable spirit of Debbie Olivier, is always filled with lots of prizes, a lively live auction, silent auction, as well as raffle prizes and a dinner banquet. The tournament will be held this year on August 3rd, 2009.
The 5th Annual John J. Darraugh Memorial Golf Outing, celebrated John Darraugh’s life this year with a beautiful day of golf followed by a silent auction, raffle, and lunch, on June 22nd in Honey Brook, PA. A tight community of family and friends, new improvements including a “super ticket” to encourage raffle ticket sales, and a silent auction proved to make this year the most successful yet.
The 1st Annual Colin MacDonald Golf Event debuted with the tag line: Great fun . . . great golf . . . great prizes . . . and a great cause . . . while remembering Colin . . . Colin’s friends and family honored his life on May 30th with a morning golf tournament followed by a luncheon. The day was a huge success, and planning for next year’s event has already begun!
Holding golf tournaments and other types of events is a fun and active way to honor the memory of those we’ve lost to cancer, and a great way to provide hope for a cancer-free future by raising funds for vital research and prevention efforts. AICR is grateful to the family and friends of these three extraordinary people for their generosity and commitment to the future of cancer research.
Honoring someone who has battled cancer can be done in any number of ways. To take the first step to honor a memory or celebrate a life, visit www.aicr.org/tributes to set up a page in their name. From there you can send emails and invite others to join.
