The Mary Jane O’Malley Memorial Fund

In memory of his Mother, Mary Jane O’Malley, Thomas O’Malley has established The Mary Jane O’Malley Memorial Fund. This fund is established as a part of the AICR Cancer Research Fund, which is invested, and provides funding exclusively for cancer research.

Mary Jane Morgan O’Malley lost her battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer on April 28, 2006, at her home with family and friends at her side. She was born on November 6, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Wayne and Eleanora Morgan. She married James E. O’Malley, Jr., on August 3, 1957. They raised five children together in Richardson, Texas.

Mary Jane enjoyed cooking, traveling, socializing with friends, playing bridge (she was an avid player) and, most of all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Sissy”. She was an active member and past President of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Women’s Guild; past President of the SCHOLA book club; long-time member of the Richardson Women’s Club, and, at the time of her death, President-Elect of that same club.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her son, James E. O’Malley, III. She is survived by her husband, James E. O’Malley, Jr.; daughter, Susan J.(O’Malley) Klaas and her husband, Tom, and her children, Curtis, Kelly, and Jackie Triece of Basking Ridge, New Jersey; son, Michael J. O’Malley of Austin, Texas; daughter, Nancy A.(O’Malley) Davis and her husband, Dr. Robert Davis, children, Erin Kate, Anna Jane and Mary Rose Davis of Plano, Texas; son, Thomas P. O’Malley of Richardson, Texas; and brothers, Robert Morgan and Michael Morgan. Mary Jane’s zest for life and positive spirit inspired everyone who met her. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mr. O’Malley’s desire is to assist in funding a research project that benefits the prevention or treatment of thyroid cancer. Should a year arise when a grant has not been submitted that will benefit thyroid cancer’s prevention or treatment, another approved research project will receive the annual award. All distributions from this fund will be used for this purpose.
