I am training to participate in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2013 to benefit the American Institute for Cancer Research. Team AICR is working toward two important goals, to complete the 26.2-mile endurance event, and to raise money in support of vital research and education.

My mom was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2007 and passed away February 2008. After watching her suffer through this awful disease I wanted to make a change to my life. I decided to start exercising and eat healthier for myself, children and husband. I wanted to have a long and healthy life with them!

AICR funded research has shown that 30% to 40% of all cancers are directly linked to the foods we eat, the exercise we get and how well we watch our weight. What this means is that we have the potential through our daily food and lifestyle choices to make a major impact on the cancer risk we each face in our lives.

With more than 1.2 million new cancer cases in the U.S. each year, and more than 500,000 cancer deaths annually, programs that can produce even a small reduction in cancer rates offer enormous savings in lives, suffering and medical expense. AICR has been at the forefront of providing education programs and materials to help people learn how to make changes for lower cancer risk.

Please join the fight against cancer by making a donation to Team AICR. No donation is too small for this great goal!

My Personal Web Log

When I signed up to fundraise for this race I was more nervous that I wasn't going to make my goal. Now I'm only $25 away with 81 days to go! I am just truly touched by all of the donations and thoughts. It really has made myself want to push harder and make everyone proud:)
Training has been a little difficult lately but still pushing thru. I am so blessed to be able to run with an amazing group of women who push me to my best each and every day! Even though this is my second marathon I feel so much more emotion this time around. I believe it is because I'm running for a purpose!

9 miles
So this is my first blog I have ever done. Please bare( sure it's misspelled) with me! Today I had a 9 mile training run. My friends and I started inside on the tread because the weather sucked. After a couple miles we went outside. I must say the rain was actually refreshing. I guess I won't really have a choice to quit if it rains the day of the marathon.
While thinking on my run I realized how amazing individuals with cancer truly are. It was then I realized I couldn't stop! They have to fight everyday for their health. It really inspired me to keep pushing forward.
I'm fortunate that I can go out and do this. I don't want to take it for granted.
I hope you all have a wonderful day to whoever reads this;) since I burned about 900 cals I'm going to go have some lunch now!
